Voyage Dallas - Confetti Eddie

Voyage Dallas is a local website that features people of interest in various communities. Edward Ruiz/Confetti Eddie was recently interviewed. The article appears online. You can read the article by clicking the link: VoyageDallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Ruiz

Hi Edward, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.

The return of Confetti Eddie

During the pandemic, I discovered Jeff McBride’s Magic and Mystery School, which became my creative sanctuary. Weekly online classes, featuring renowned guest magicians, sparked my passion. Even after lockdown ended, I continued attending Monday night school sessions.

In 2021, I joined the school and began mentoring under Jeff McBride, refining my signature Confetti Eddie style. His guidance and customized coaching helped me develop captivating magic.

From Open Mic to Sold-Out Shows

To hone my craft, I attended open mic nights, recording performances, analyzing footage, and refining acts. This iterative process yielded a robust repertoire. I landed gigs at Four Day Weekend Comedy and Dallas Comedy Club.

Magical Collaborations and Milestones

– Joined a trio of tricksters, selling out Farr Best Theater in Mansfield (2024)
– Created “The Mystery of The Two-Headed Jaguar,” my debut solo show
– Continue to host and performed in my own variety show
– Performed alongside Jeff McBride at Las Vegas’s legendary Wonderground show (Area 15
)

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t exactly been smooth there have been challenges. One of the biggest challenges after the pandemic for me was how to pay bills, and still work on creating new magic. When all performances came to a stop I had to look for other ways to make an income. I took my show online, and found odd jobs to make extra money. Thankfully in time performances resumed and work opportunities appeared.
Overall my journey as Confetti Eddie has been marked by steady growth, punctuated by exciting milestones. Between performances, I dedicate myself to refining my craft, always seeking innovation.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a magician that specializes in paper magic tricks, and I am a confetti connoisseur. I am known for my unique style of reimagined classic magic. I am most proud of my current work that blends storytelling with sleight of hand.
I prefer a theatrical setting for my performances.
I have been creating my own magic routines, and I continually update my show with new magic as it becomes ready.
Over the last few years I learned how to scale up my magic and how to pack small for road shows. I think about how an act is going to travel, and I build the props to break down and fit inside carry on plane luggage. A lot of thought goes into my magic, the costuming, script, props, music. I enjoy putting a good act together, there is an art to putting together a magic routine.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Yes I. would like to thank Jeff McBride and everyone at the Magic and Mystery School in Las Vegas. McBride has a vast knowledge of magic; his mentorship program helped me elevate my performances. McBride will make time to review videos of my performances and give me tips, we meet once a month online over Zoom. He is always ready to share new magic, listen to my needs, and he offers only the best advice possible. It’s great to have someone in your corner and magic is so specialized you need a real pro that understands magic to help you grow as a performer. I am thankful to have found the school and happy to be a student of magic.

Another person I would like to thank is Braden Daniels. Daniels and I became friends through the Mystery School. The mystery School is in Las Vegas, Daniels lives in Mansfield, and I live in Dallas. It made sense for us to work on something together locally.
We have been on each other’s magic shows. We also formed a trio with comedian magician Dean Lewis. The three of us perform as the Trio of Tricksters. Over the summer we performed to a sold out crowd at Farr Best Theater in Mansfield.
Daniels is a good partner in magic; he is good at staying positive and enjoys developing new magic. The two of us follow the same magic philosophy. I look forward to more magic endeavors with Daniels.
